Strawberry Pudding

1/3 cup + 1 Tbs. sugar
1 Tbs. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
3 eggs, separated
2 cups milk, scalded
1-1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 pkg. vanilla wafers (16 oz.)
2 cups strawberries, fresh or frozen, sliced

In saucepan, combine 1/3 cup sugar, flour, salt, egg yolks, milk, and 1 tsp. vanilla; cook, stirring constantly, until custard thickens. Line bottom and side of a 1-1/2 quart baking dish with vanilla wafers, alternately layers of the custard, wafers, and berries.

Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form; add the 1 Tbs. sugar abd 1/2 tsp. vanilla. Spread meringue on custard and bake in a preheated 350 degree oven until meringue is browned.
